Looking for my long-lost friends

I was reading some of the old posts on my original blog when I came across one that I wrote about looking for a couple of friends I have lost contact decades ago. I am still looking, though I haven't really commit any resource into doing a proper search. Anyway, I have created a 寻人启事 page called 'Lost Connections' at the top and copied the blog post there so it can be displayed upfront.

I am praying hard that I can get to see them one of these days or at least know their whereabouts. A summary of the two friends I am trying to locate is as follows:

Name: Ms Lim Ah Ewe
Year Known: 1994
Relationship: Nurse who took care of me in NUH and later become my godsister
Last Contact: At hospital ward 76 in 1997

Name: Ms Yang Jiayi
Year Known: 1984
Relationship:  Classmate who was not afraid to befriend someone on a wheelchair
Last Contact: Woodlands Primary School's Primary 2A in 1984

你们知道我在找你们吗?

Received this poem via an email; for my friends...

If I could catch a rainbow
I would do it just for you
And share with you its beauty
On the days you're feeling blue.

If I could build a mountain
You could call your very own;
A place to find serenity,
A place to be alone.

If I could take your troubles
I would toss them in the sea,
But all these things I'm finding
Are impossible for me.

I cannot build a mountain
Or catch a rainbow fair,
But let me be what I know best,
A friend who's always there...

1987 - Woodlands Primary School 5N1

I was digging around my old books and stuff when I found this old class photo taken when I was in primary 5. Hence I thought of uploading the photo here and in friendster album hoping that any of my old classmates in the photo will recognise it and contact me. Please do contact me my old friends...

For a colleague leaving tomorrow...

Roses are red, violets are blue.
My calendar has read, tomorrow is for you.

For all your wishes, with all my might.
We'll celebrate from morning till night.

Complete with a little wining and dining.
We give cheers to your new beginning.

Though a good friend I will miss.
I wish you all the best with a kiss.

Congratulations Keith & Mei Chan

Wishing you a blessed marriage with happiness till a ripe old age. The banquet was really very extravagant. The food was one of the best I have taken. Thank you for inviting me to share your big day. Sorry for not staying till the very end as it was late.

Lost Connections

I was clicking around the Yahoo! Singapore website late yesterday night when I came across a section in the Message Boards called Lost Connections. (Yes, there are interesting stuff in the Yahoo! website. It's up to you to click around and find the one you like.) This section is for people to post messages looking for friends or relatives that they have lost contact with. Then I got thinking whether I have anyone I wish to locate and yes indeed I do. Hence I posted a message looking for two people that have left their marks in the very early years of my life.

Sometimes this is how things happen. A person can come into your life, make a difference to you, but then leave your life as quickly as he/she has came. There are many people who really have shaped and are shaping my life. I truly love them and appreciate their presence, and will always treasure your kindness. They are you my friends. Though I may not get to meet you often or at all now, you are definitely not far from my mind. Friendships...

Anyway, the two people I am looking for now are just the first two in a long list.

Ms Lim Ah Ewe, thank you very much for nursing me back to health after my major surgery in 1994 at the National University Hospital (NUH). I have tried looking for you again at the hospital but you have left for quite some time. Please contact me at nghianja@gmail.com if you happen to see this message.

Yang Jiayi was a classmate I had in primary school back in 1984. Though I don't remember we having spend time together or talk much, a small gesture you did made me realise something. The small smurf toy you gave me made me understand that being on a wheelchair should never be an obstacle or excuse for making friends. I don't think you will remember me but still hope you can contact me at nghianja@gmail.com too.

Hahaha... it's the end of the year and I always tend to go into such reflective mood around this time;

Wedding

Wow, the wedding I attended yesterday was like a mini reunion for the graduating class of 2000 as both the bride and groom have common friends with us as guests. It was so wonderful to able to see friends I miss dearly yet fail to make an effort in catching up. What's wrong with me? Why can't I just make the effort?

Rented Apartment

My friend shifted apartments today. But her new rented place is full of small but irritating defects and is real dirty. She said the owner actually claimed that he had cleaned the place and the defects are no problems at all. May I ask the owner a few questions? Are you sure that a bed missing two legs is safe for sleeping? Are you willing to sleep on your words? You said the place had been cleaned but why is it that I wiped the cupboards with a white cloth and ended up with a black one? Why can't you at least be ethical when renting out your apartment?

Wonderful Outing

What a wonderful evening I had! A big bunch of us actually pulled off a dinner-cum-movie outing without too much of a glitch. The organisation was as smooth as it could have been. Thanks to everyone for going. It is so nice to be able to meet up with you people. And Shrek 2 is an excellent movie. Kudos to the animators for coming up with the character Puss-in-boots.

Old Friends' Wedding

Just came back from the wedding dinner whereby the couple having been my friends for more than 10 years. Met a few other friends that I missed very much after so many years without contacting each other.

A wedding is such a joyous event and I am happy for the newly-weds but yet I am feeling a bit sad, a sense of apprehension that time really flies. It seems like yesterday that we were singing without a care on the same island 10 years ago. The feeling of being old is all the more obvious with friends around me getting married and having little ones. All of a sudden, a sense of loneliness seems to have crept into my heart...

'jiao zi'-making session

It has been a wonderful day and I am really happy. My close friends from my undergraduate days came over and we had a 'jiao zi'-making session. Nothing beats a nice reunion.
